It is all a matter of style really, how long you hold on to the fantasy that you are somehow controlling your children's future fates. It is a good theory to make it a policy that everything in a person's life is a layer of importance. If you abandon that you abandon choice and insight. When you ponder natural consequences it makes you pause.

...crazy, my mom is the type of mom that said leave the door open...don't lay on the couch...etc., etc.
my mom and i have a good relationship now, and we respect each other...but i'll never see the day that we have that kind of conversation...
in some ways i wish i could talk to my mom about everything, including sex, etc...but in other ways i'm kind of thankful that we don't talk about it...our views are so dramatically different and I don't think it would be a good experience. I guess that's just the way some relationships are...

These audio fragments with my mom are from a four hour conversation/interview i recorded roughly two weeks ago on my digital voice recorder.

American conservative christian society as a whole needs to re-evaluate their approach to sex. We (and i speak generally for all children that grew up conservative christian) are told that sex is sinful until you get married, and then once you get married you're magically supposed to flip the sinful sex pancake over to reveal the wonderful copulation side. Just doesn't make sense.
